The Pinnacles in WA

The Pinnacles are one of the most known natural sight seeing spots in Western Australia. The pinnacles are thousands of small to huge limestone pillars inmidst of the unnatural looking yellow sand of the Pinnacles Desert in the Nambung National Park.

pinnacles.jpgTo visit the pinnacles you drive the Brand Highway up north from Perth. Make sure you get to the right highway, because we took the wrong highway (Wanneroo Highway) and we went to Lancelin which is a dead end. We had to take a 40km detour. Normally you travel about 3 hours from Perth to the pinnacles, we needed 4.5 hours.

lonelzstreet.jpgThe first hour is very exciting, bush whereever you look, but after that it becomes quite boring. The road is almost without bends, you drive deadstraightly for hours.

Finally you reach the street sign to the pinnacles. But you’re still not there, it goes again deadstraight for quite some time.
Short before the town Cervantes you turn into the Nambung National Park.

The entrance fee is 8 AUD per car. There is a one-way round trip through the pinnacles and if you don’t want to get out of your car, you don’t need to. Every 30 meters or so there is a place to park the car and you can explore the pinnacles by foot. You shouldn’t touch the pinnacles because the fat of you fingers hurt the limestone, but many tourists don’t care.

pinnacle.jpgThe whole area looks like a yellow moon landscape with thousands of pillars in various sizes and forms. It looks so unreal!

We spend about 2 hours there, we climbed the hills and enjoyed the sun. You should definitly have something to drink with you, because there are no shops at all there.

The pinnacles are very beautiful, but if you have a time limit visiting Western Australia, you shouldn’t be too disappointed if you missed this tourist attraction.
