White laundry

Filed under: Housekeeping    Email this article    Deutsche Version

Doing the laundry has to be done and except that I’m not so fond of doing it, laundry is something I had never spent time thinking about it. Even less I thought about the quality of a washing machine. Until now.

Our washing machine is a challenge. The challenge is to stay cool and accept the fact that the washing machine doesn’t wash our clothes so that they are really clean. toploader.jpgThis monster (the washing machine) is a so-called top loader. This means that it is to be filled from above. You can choose between three temperatures: cold, warm, hot. We don’t know how cold or hot this really is. A washing turn lasts about 40 minutes. That would be really good, since our washing machine in Vienna is never finished under 90 minutes. But only if this Australian washing machine would manage to clean our clothes in a half-decent way. And it’s not like that we would work physically very hard or we would jump regularly into puddles of mud. We have also tried various washing powders, but they can’t be the only ones to blame.

More or less we came to terms with the fact that our white things have a yellowish glow and that our t-shirts become more wide than high by and by.

My mother told me that these top loader washing machines were very popular in the 60’s in Vienna. There is probably nothing more to say about it.
