EFTPOS - pay with your bankcard

Filed under: Money    Email this article    Deutsche Version

It’s really convenient that you can pay in Perth with your bankcard in each restaurant, each business, and even at doctor surgeries. The whole system is called EFTPOS and means “electronics funds transfer at point of sale”. This sounds surely more impressive than “Bankomatkasse” in Austria.

If you want to pay with your bankcard, you have to answer two questions. Firstly they ask you if you have a cheque or a savings account. The first time we simply guessed and said savings account. Until today we have no clue, what’s the difference between the two of them and which account we really have. Up to now all amounts were deducted properly from our account, so we must have guessed correctly.

The second question they ask is if you want cash out. Since they mumble pretty badly, we have never understood what they actual say, we usually answer “No, thanks.” Eventually we’ve understood that you can not only pay your bill, but you can also withdraw money from you bank account similar to an ATM.
