In our short holiday we decided to stay in the Yallingup Lodge close to Dunsborough in the Southwest of Western Australia.
The Yallingup Lodge is a very small, cosy hotel with not more than 5 suites. To get there you have to turn from the Cave Road shortly after Dunsborough into a small forrest road. After a approx. 500m through the forrest, you reach this beautiful hotel on top of a small hill inmidst beautiful trees and wild flowers.
They have quite a big outdoor pool, but at this time of the year the water has about 16 to 18 degree Celsius and so we didn’t even try the pool. They have also a well equipped fitness area, but we certainly didn’t come near to it either.
As before mentioned, the Yallingup Lodge has 5 suites, which are called after several wines. Our suite was the Shiraz suite. As welcome present you get a bottle of wine. The room is very cosy and for this time of the year they gave you an electric blanket and an additional heater. I have never known how nice an electic blanket can be. It’s fantastic to go to a warm and cosy bed!
However the real reason why we have chosen to stay in the Yallingup Lodge was the spa on the private balcony. Yes, an outdoor spa on the balcony! It’s under a roof and a lot of plants make sure that noone sees you in the spa, not that many people would walk there anyway.
We spent every evening about two to three hours in this big comfortable spa. Even if you’re tall as we both are, it’s really comfortable. Outside it was chilly and it rainded cats and dogs, but we sat in our hot spa with lots of foam and by candlelight, drinking a bottle of wine or like Mike a can of Ottakringer, an Austrian beer which he got as a birthday present earlier this year.
In the hotel they have also a lounge with an open fireplace where every evening the landlords invite you to a glass of port wine and chocolates. The landlords are very nice and laid-back and a bit alternative, so the atmosphere was very relaxed and nice.
Rather unusual for Australia breakfast was included in the room price. Normally Australians spend their holidays rather in self-supply chalets and it’s not usual for hotels either to include breakfast into the room charges as it is in Austria. We had our breakfast on a big veranda outside, with a gas heater next to us and a beautiful view over the treetops. The only downer was that the breakfast was only served until 9.30 am, but somehow I managed to get up.
