On our first evening of our short trip to the Southwest of Western Australia the landlord of our hotel told us that there would be bands playing in the pub of Dunsborough. A band from New Zealand would be playing some kind of reggae, hip hop and rap. We thought, ok, since we like this type of music, we will give it a try.
The pub was easily found, because there is only one in Dunsborough. The entrance fee was 30 bucks, but hey, we were on holiday. The pub was quite big, because they had some pool tables. And the pub was really crowded. We wondered where all the people might have come from, since Dunsborough has about 4000 inhabitants. Our landlord told us later that many people came from the surrounding villages. Surrounding means that they came from Margaret River which is 40km away. The concert was really a big event for the whole region.
The support band was a bit weird. A lot of trumpet without anyone singing and somehow quite slow and not really intoxicating. The main gig of the band “Salmonella Dub” was much better, had a much faster beat. (Here is a audio sample of Salmonella Dub: http://www.salmonelladub.com/main.html).
But the most interesting thing was watching the people. Many surfer dudes, but somehow grubby, the chicks all wearing nearly nothing and with very high high-heels.
It was also strange that many people were smoking and we are not used to smoky pubs any more. For people who did ever visit Austria this may seem strange that we are complaining about the smoke, since in Austria people smoke everywhere and nobody cares about it. But I can assure you we will suffer when we go back to Vienna.
The only annoying thing was that there was carpet laid in the pub and with every step your shoes stuck on it, because people spilled their drinks on the floor.
However we enjoyed it very much being at a “concert”.

Hi Guys
We went to the same night out in the pub, Salmonella dub are great eh!
If you get down this way again, you should try the Dunsborough Beachouse, it is the only Dunsborough Backpackers that is right on the beach and has a really good fun atmosphere, with good people and a great place.
Give it a try if you get back over from Austria next time!
